HND in NS whether to do it or not ?

Hey guys welcome to Mariner Plus.today we will discuss whether you should join HND NS or not most probably you are here because you have already taken admission in HND NS or planning to take admission in HND NS.

First let us understand what is HND ??

HND stands for "HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA" and NS for "Nautical Science" so it is "HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE".

It is a 2 year course 10 months in India and 10 months in U.K colleges like City of Glasgow College and South Tyneside College.

please keep in mind this course requires huge amount of money and there are only few colleges in India which offers this course. It requires around 20 Lakhs Rupees.HND is actually perfect for those who are financially strong and who have scored less marks in PCM below 50% because below 50% PCM students don't get admission in DNS or BSC NS but they get admission in HND NS

why so much money is required ?

Expense Breakup :-

1) Indian Institute - 2-4 lakhs (hostel and food included)

2) U.K Institute - 3-5 lakhs (hostel and food not included)

3) for visa you have to show 8-10 lakhs in your bank account.

Now the question  is shall i do this HND NS or not ???

if you think HND NS is just practical and no theory is involved then you are totally wrong because many of my friend in my batch thought that Merchant Navy is all about practical knowledge.yes merchant navy is all about practical knowledge but before entering into Merchant Navy you need to clear your theoretical knowledge for example there are subjects like stability, celestial navigation, cargo works etc there are total 14 subjects and believe me it is not that easy and you also need to be good in English or else it will be really difficult for you to survive in this course.

so this course is of  2 years,10 months in Indian institute and 10 months in U.K institute.
after completing 10 months in indian institute you will be awarded with HNC (higher national certificate) and STCW courses certificates (fire fighting, personal survival techniques, personal safety and social responsibilities and elimentry first aid) this STCW courses are mandatory for joining merchant navy

Note - STCW courses fees is already included in you indian institutes fees but still conform it from your institute before taking admission
after getting HNC you will go to U.K for futher studies and after completing that course they will award you with HND and after getting HND your institute will handle your CDC work and you will get INDIAN CDC students who appeared for HND before year 2013 they use to get PANAMA CDC before taking admission please conform whether they will give you PANAMA or INDIAN CDC. after getting cdc now you search for jobs as a CADET and after getting job as a cadet you will have to get 15 months sea experience and after getting 15 months sea experience you can now appear for second mate/officer examination

Note :- you want get chance to sail continuesly for 15 months you will get minimum 6 months to sail and max upto 1 year it depends on your Captain and Chief officer of the ship

Noe :- please keep in mind all the future examinations like 2nd mate/cheif mate/captain all HND students have to appear for examination in U.k you cannot appear for exams in INDIA
Note - currently in 2018 there is recession going on and availability of jobs are very few so if you are taking admission in HND NS apart from HND NS keep an alternative option for example alternative field because just after completing course you want get job and not all students will be financially strong so some might take loan from banks so to repay them it will be a pain for you so choose your carrier wisely.

to be frank if you are joining merchant navy because  you heard that there you get girls on board, alcohol and all that stuffs 😍then forget about it because no one will have told you that as a cadet you need to work 18 hours  max a day (it depends on your cheif officer) if you got bad ass chief officer then your life is a hell. sometime's you want even get a shore leave specially during port inspections .and there are many risks on board like if you don't take precautions then you are going to lose your life.Merchat Navy is not that easy what you hear from peoples Merchant Navy is all about sacrifices.😐

Do you have any idea about the bad weather at sea 😱 ???

if you are joining this course then please focus on studies and don't waste your parents money and please only join this course if you are capable of studying you are joining this course because you have got less marks in PCM which shows that you were weak in studies.
