What is DNS ( Diploma in Nautical Science ) ?

   What is DNS?


   DNS full form is Diploma in Nautical Science it is a one year course in India.

Eligibility?


 Class XII/ 10+2 from a recognized Board/ University with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), with not less than 65% marks in PCM and 60% aggregate.

English: Should have obtained not less than 60% marks in English as a separate subject, at either 10th or 12th standard or in the Degree course conducted by a recognized Board/ University

Age Limit: Minimum age should be 17 years and maximum age should not exceed 25 years on the date of commencement of course (Course commences in February and August every year)


Physical and Medical Standards: Physically fit and should meet the medical requirements as specified by DGS guidelines, 6/6 eyesight without visual aids and no colour blindness

Each academy has their own fee structure but commonly the fee ranges from 3 lakhs to 6 lakhs.

DNS Structure? 


1 year course consists of 2 semesters and exams which are conducted by University. After passing out the exams conducted by the University, the cadets will be awarded DIPLOMA NAUTICAL SCIENCE by University with INDIAN CDC by the D.G Shipping,The cadets will be joining on board vessel as a Trainee cadet. They will have to obtain 18 months sea service (Two years time will take to complete the 18 months sea experience). With this 18 months sea experience, they will undergo 4 months Second mate’s foundation course & they are eligible to appear for 2nd mate exams. After passing second mate exams, they will be promoted as Third officer and after 15 months experience they will be promoted as Second Officer.
 
This Diploma Nautical Science course also leads to get B.Sc degree in Nautical Science by University. During the first 18 months sea service, University is conducting the Distance learning Programme(DLP) by giving the necessary study material. With further sea service & exams they will be promoted to Chief Officer and then becoming Captain of the ship.
